Candidates for the Fellowship must be nominated by someone senior in their community or their organization. The nominator must motivate their nomination of the candidate on the official Nomination Form. AFLI will accept only a single nomination per nominee.  Furthermore, nomination does not guarantee the nominee will proceed to the application phase.  We strongly recommend that an individual interested in seeking nomination work closely with their nominator to ensure a powerful nomination is submitted that allows them to reach the application phase.  There is intense competition for the Fellowship from amongst the most impressive young leaders on the continent. Self-nominations or direct applications are not accepted.

The Archbishop Tutu Leadership Programme (ATLP) is designed to be a prestigious and highly-selective programme. The Fellowships are limited to a maximum of fewer than 20 selected participants who will be chosen by panels of selectors from the accepted nominated individuals from across Africa. The selected candidates will attend workshops in South Africa and Oxford, UK, and it is obligatory that they commit to being available for the full period of both workshops. They should also be prepared to commit time out of normal work hours to tasks required to be completed between the two workshops. The selected candidates will be joined on the programme by candidates nominated by the sponsors.

For both nominators and candidates, please review the selection criteria.
