The Application phase of the Class of 2027 Tutu Fellowship Programme has closed
The deadline was midnight South Africa time on Sunday 25 October.
To candidates who submitted an application, good luck, and thank you for your interest. We received several hundred submissions and the selectors' work will be cut out for them in choosing the candidates for the next Tutu Leadership Programme. Login access for applicants for the Class of 2027 has been revoked, so logins will no longer work.
Selection is highly competitive, so even strong applicants may not be shortlisted. Some existing Tutu Fellows had to re-apply several times before being selected. The entry you could see when your application was saved and closed is what selectors will see when they are granted access to the site and begin the selection process in early November.
The Class of 2027 will be announced in early 2027. Applicants will receive an email this year notifying them of the status of their application, whether they have been declined for further consideration, or have been shortlisted. More on this can be found at the Key Dates page.
AFLI also thanks all nominators for submitting nominees for the Class of 2027 of the Tutu Fellowship Programme. AFLI opens nominations annually for the approximately 20-25 slots each year around August for several weeks. For people interested in the programme, please calendarise next year for this opportunity.
The goal of the African Leadership Institute (AFLI) is to nurture and enhance leadership capability across Africa, with particular focus on Africa’s most promising young leaders. AFLI’s aim is to create a network of high-potential young Africans who have attended our programmes, and who are expected to rise to top leadership positions in their sphere of activity over the next 5-10 years and be actively engaged in contributing to positive change on the continent. AFLI achieves this through its flagship programme, the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship Programme, which has been offered since 2006. The programme provides leadership learning activities that enhance selected candidates' experiences, insights, tools and confidence, and provides a support network that will better enable them to become drivers of the transformation of Africa.
